Small Business Saturday in the Ticonderoga Area!

We have all heard the old adage that small businesses are the backbone of any community. This saying is not simply lip service to entrepreneurs. Small businesses create jobs in our communities, provide products and services, contribute to the local economy, and support local charities. For these reasons, and many more, supporting our local small businesses during the holiday season is essential. One great opportunity to do this? Small Business Saturday!

What is Small Business Saturday?

Small Business Saturday takes place each year on the Saturday following Thanksgiving. Founded by American Express in 2010, the goal is to encourage national support for small businesses. For the Ticonderoga Area, the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce has been an American Express Small Business Saturday Neighborhood Champion since this inception. Neighborhood Champions are ambassadors of the “Shop Small” movement, spreading awareness of the importance of supporting small businesses.

What happens during Small Business Saturday?

Each year, the Ticonderoga Area does Small Business Saturday in a big way. Local businesses run a variety of promotions, specials, and host special events which create a buzz in local shopping districts at many businesses throughout the area. Shoppers can be found scurrying from store-to-store nabbing great deals, getting a leg up on their holiday shopping, or grabbing a bite to eat to refuel before they hit the streets for more shopping. The excitement of the holiday season is palpable as you enter each store – holiday music is playing and customers happily chat about their experiences of the day.

In addition to compiling a list of local promotions and specials for area shoppers, the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce also organizes a Small Business Saturday Passport raffle. Shoppers can pick up passports at participating businesses, have them signed by five participating businesses, return them to the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce, and be entered to win local gift certificates.
