Planes, trains, and automobiles

Traveling to the Lake Champlain Region is part of the adventure! The area is easily accessed from major metropolitan areas including New York City and New Jersey; Toronto and Ottawa; Montreal; Boston, Springfield, and Hartford; and points west such as Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse.

Choose among a variety of transportation options including car, rail, and ferry. You can even get here by bike, if you like!

Automobile

The villages, towns, and hamlets of the Lake Champlain Region are easily accessed via state Route 9 and Interstate 87. Drivers from across the lake can cross via ferry (see below) or over the Lake Champlain bridge, which connects Addison, Vermont to Crown Point.

Rail travel

Amtrak offers daily service on the Adirondack, which may be boarded at New York Penn Station (NYP), Albany Rensselaer station (ALB), and points in between. The train travels through this spectacular region all the way to Montreal, QC (MTR). The Adirondack stops in the Lake Champlain Region at Ticonderoga (FTC), Port Henry (POH), and Westport (WSP). Travelers coming from the west and east may take trains to Albany and change there.

Ferry

Travelers from Vermont and other points east may take a year-round ferry, departing from Charlotte, Vermont, and arriving in Essex. The 30-minute ride across the lake provides excellent views of the Adirondacks and Green Mountains. Further south the Fort Ticonderoga Ferry operates seasonally, mid-May through mid-October, connecting Ticonderoga with Shoreham Vermont.
