Presenter Brian O'Connor points out that some say this British officer "lost America" at the Battle of Saratoga. Burgoyne, however, provided valiant service in Europe, a brilliant sweep down the Champlain Valley and the conquest of Ticonderoga. Following the war, as a successful playwright and member of Parliament, he offered a justification for his actions in North America.
