250th Commemoration: Onward to Canada at Fort Ticonderoga
A 250th Commemoration: Onward to Canada
This event features the largest number of reproduction wooden vessels in a reenactment event to cross two lakes, recreating the Northern Army embarkment from Ticonderoga!
As the nation prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, Fort Ticonderoga invites you to step directly into history with its groundbreaking REAL TIME REVOLUTION™, an immersive historical experience. During the dramatic 2-day reenactment event August 30-31, witness an unparalleled glimpse into the launch of the Northern Continental Army as they prepare to drive British regulars from Canada.
The “Onward to Canada” REAL TIME REVOLUTION™ reenactment will transport visitors 250 years ago, to the day, at Ticonderoga. Experience the arrival of waves of Connecticut and New York encamping together the first time together. Watch as they bring in their equipment hauled with carts and wagons drawn by horses and oxen. Thrill at the crackle of muskets and roar of cannon as this new American Army maneuvers in combined forces. Meet the generals of this nascent Continental Army command and discover their effort to cultivate an alliance with Canadians and neutrality with native Americans. Smell the aroma of rations cooked in the first encampment of the Northern Continental Army.
This weekend-long event also features a unique prelude on Friday August 29, with an encampment of troops in Hague, NY on the shores of Lake George. These reenactors will embark at dawn from Hague Town Beach, rowing down Lake George to Mossy Point in Ticonderoga on Saturday, August 30. Don’t miss the march of these soldiers from Lake George through the village of Ticonderoga beginning at 10am and onward to Fort Ticonderoga.
On Sunday, August 31, watch the army assemble at Fort Ticonderoga and practice firing “en masse” together, before they break camp and embark on reproduction wooden bateau on Lake Champlain. See the spectacle sight of oars and sails on this storied water, as Fort Ticonderoga recreates the start of the American expedition into Canada.
Throughout the weekend, a full schedule of activities and programs will be offered, including:
- Daily tours within the fort, King’s Garden, and museum exhibition spaces
- Historic trades programs
- Hands-on family activities
- The six-acre Heroic Corn Maze
- Ongoing living history programs
