Over the course of the next few days there are seasonal Halloween activities throughout the Lake Champlain Region.  Some are very family friendly and some come with fright warnings, but you should find something to appeal to every member of your family. 

The Penfield Haunted Homestead begins Friday night (October 25^th) in Ironville at dusk and runs each evening through Sunday.  A visit to this Haunted Homestead is not for the fainted hearted and not recommended for children under 12.  It is sponsored by the

Penfield Museum and Retro Film Studios.  This local film company knows how to put on quite a show, so prepare for a great event.  

Also on Friday night is Fort Ticonderoga’s Garrison Ghost Tour.  This event requires advanced reservations (585-2821) so make plans early.  The tour begins promptly at 8:00 PM and lasts an hour and a half.  Museum staff will guide you through the Fort recounting the numerous unexplained (spooky) events visitors, and staff, have experienced over the past 100 years.  Wear good walking shoes.  This tour is not recommended to those with mobility issues. 

On Saturday, October 26^th, you can return to Fort Ticonderoga for a less scary event.   Show up at 3:00 PM in costume to participate in a colorful costume parade.  Costume prizes will be given for adults and children.  Following the parade you can search for treats in their huge 6 acre Heroic Corn Maze during the Corn Maze Candy Quest until 6:00 PM.   

Also on Saturday, from 10:00 AM until noon is the Harvest Halloween Festival presented by the Lakeside School at Black Kettle Farm in Essex.  Young children will really enjoy this.  Parents and children are encouraged to come in costume.  Activities will include apple cider pressing, a potato sack obstacle course, and wind wand making.   A special treat for the youngsters with be the live storytelling featuring Lakeside School’s special guest David Sewell-McCann of Sparkle Stories. 

Finally on Halloween, Thursday, October 31^st, everyone is invited to participate in the Halloween Fest in downtown Ticonderoga hosted by the Ticonderoga Montcalm Street Partnership. 

 

From 3:00 to 4:30 PM every downtown Ticonderoga business displaying a pumpkin in their window will be ready to handout treats during which time a portion of Montcalm Street will be closed to vehicle traffic.  Old fashioned Halloween games will take place at Libby’s Bakery Café at 92 Montcalm Street.  See the Haunted Hallway at North Country Community College’s Ticonderoga Campus from 4:00 to 6:00 PM and get some refreshments there.
