Another of those Adirondack brook trout streams that flies under the radar, the Black River receives a good stocking from both the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the Essex County Fish Hatchery. The state usually puts in just under 1,000 yearling brook trout and the county adds another 900 fish.
Getting there
There are many access points, including the outlet of Lincoln Pond, along Ledge Hill Road in Westport Brainard’s Forge Road in Elizabethtown, and County Route 10 in Lewis and Westport.
Fishing
There are no special regulations on this water, which runs through the towns of Elizabethtown, Westport, and Lewis. The stream runs from Lincoln Pond about 6 miles to Wadhams, where it joins the Bouquet.
