Hiking
This trail leaves 0.9 miles from the trailhead from the Lewis Clearing Bay Trail. From the trail intersection you will climb a short bit before starting a moderate drop down to the intersection with the Calamity Trail. Take a left at this intersection and start a much steeper descent to the Shore of Lake Champlain at Barn Rock Bay. Barn Rock is at the north side of the bay, towering above.
The Split Rock Wild Forest is known for having timber rattlesnakes and can often be seen sunning themselves at lookout and along the trail. It is highly advisable that your pets stay on a leash, and to never approach or corner a timber rattlesnake. Negative encounters with humans are not likely as they are easily spooked. If you or your pet has been bit, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible.
