First Day Hike at Crown Point State Historic Site
First Day Hike at Crown Point State Historic Site
In celebration of the new year, Crown Point State Historic Site will be holding a First Day History Hike on New Year’s Day 2025 at 1:00 P.M. The hike will last about two hours and cover up to 2.5 miles, conditions permitting.
Participants should gather at the Crown Point State Historic Site Museum. The guided hike will include a tour of the Historic Site grounds. In addition to the ruins of the two pre-Revolutionary War forts, we will also visit the memorial lighthouse dedicated to Samuel de Champlain. On the walk we are also likely to meet a colonial era soldier who will tell us how they survived the winter here.
The event is free and open to the public. Please wear appropriate footwear and dress for the weather. In the event of severe weather, a notification that the event has been cancelled or postponed will be posted to the historic site’s website and Facebook page.
Crown Point State Historic Site preserves and interprets the colonial era history of the lower Lake Champlain Valley. Through research, exhibits, guided tours, and educational programming, Crown Point State Historic Site tells the complex stories of the early French, British, American and Indigenous inhabitants of the valley in the 18 th century.
